General training

General training and courses provided by other agencies and institutions which may be relevant to those wanting to start a fresh expression of church.

mission shaped ministry

The mission shaped ministry course is a one-year, part-time course which takes you on a learning journey as part of a supportive community, training you for ministry in fresh expressions of church.

ReSource

ReSource offers training weekends each year for people who are living out the call to pioneer new forms of mission. Each weekend is immersed in a different context and explores a particular edge in mission with a focus on meeting and hearing the story of local missional communities.

The Possible World (CMS)

The possible world is a self-guided course on mission from CMS which takes a focus on prophetic mission – prophets are people who grieve over the way things are and see new possibilities against the odds and then help people create that new possible world.

It has seven sessions exploring Jesus (and you) as prophets, hospitality, consumer culture, the environment, human suffering, injustice and joining the prophetic and the practical.

The course includes a DVD and 50-page booklet and is ideal for a church, home group, missional community or any group that want to explore together how another world might be possible.

You can purchase the course for £19.99 from the CMS shop.

Training for Learning and Serving – TLS (URC)

Through a combination of online study material, local fortnightly study groups, and three residential weekends each year, registered students explore contextual theology related to their own chosen area of service, which could include leading a fresh expression of church.

In addition to the optional two year Foundation, there are six one-year courses offered through TLS on worship, pastoral care, prayer, evangelism, community development work, and interfaith relationships respectively. All courses are designed for ecumenical use and can be tackled at three levels – faith development, church-accreditation, and university credit.

The closing date for registration is Friday 31 May for the academic year beginning in September.

You can watch students telling their stories of how TLS has transformed their lives and their understanding of God.

BA (Hons) Theology and Mission (Springdale College – Together in Mission)

Learn about mission while leading mission.

The BA (Hons) Theology and Mission course will help build on your prior learning and experience to develop your leadership potential in a range of mission and ministry situations. It is a practical, affordable and flexible apprenticeship style course created by practitioners with hands-on experience of mission in the western world. The aim of the course is to develop missional leaders who can work flexibly within ministry teams, or who can transfer skills to other career or vocational situations.

Crucible (Urban Expression/Salvation Army)

Crucible is for Christians with courage and imagination, who suspect:

  • We need to operate as cross-cultural missionaries because we live in a cross-cultural mission context.
  • We need to think creatively about incarnating the gospel and planting new kinds of churches in emerging and diverse cultures.
  • We need to recover the biblical vision of shalom and reflect on how we live as followers of Jesus in light of this all-embracing vision.
  • We need to pay particular attention to the margins, because we serve the God who frequently does new things there:

    – On the margins of society among the poor and disenfranchised.

    – At the margins of culture, where creative thinking explores new possibilities.

    – On the margins of the familiar, the spaces all around us, neglected or ignored, but full of potential.
