New VentureFX project in Exeter

Jon Curtis has been appointed leader of the latest VentureFX project which started in his home city of Exeter in December.

He belongs to a church in Exeter Methodist Circuit and has been involved with numerous fresh ways of being church as well as having an interest in football, supporting homeless people, youth work, social action and global justice, and punk rock music.

Jon plays with punk band The Cut Ups and has recently toured Europe with them. He has a close association with The Cavern, a live music venue and bar in the city centre, and has spent a long time promoting live music in the area. Jon will be drawing on all his experience and networks of young adults as he seeks over the coming months to create a fresh expression of church to which they can relate.

VentureFX, as the Methodist Church's Pioneering Ministries Scheme, is an initiative to reach young adults with no previous links to church. Over five years the scheme aims to identify 20 people with the gifts to pioneer new Christian communities among people of this age group, and 20 locations where this can happen.

The objective is to establish fresh expressions of church in new places and in new ways within a culture of holy risk-taking. VentureFX is intended to complement the grass roots development of fresh expressions throughout the church.
